Getting started with the tool? 🤔✨ We're here to answer all your questions and help you get up and running smoothly!
🐣 First Steps
What is a task and how is it calculated?
A task is a simple action you would do manually.
Technically, it equals to one request on our end. When we are not able to perform the request (process the input), the task won't be counted. If the request doesn't retrieve any result (as for an email finder) we will still count the task because we deployed resources to check this result.
Example with a search and an extraction on LinkedIn:
Manually, you would connect to LinkedIn, search for a profile (e.g. Guillaume Odier), click on it and copy and paste every data you can find on the profile.
With Captain Data, this would be two tasks: one to search the profile on LinkedIn and one to extract all of its data. Simple as that.

Is your job paused due to invalid cookies? No worries! This usually happens because cookies have expired or were regenerated when you logged out and back in.
This article will guide you on how to refresh your cookies (or someone else's cookies) and resume your job.

Why is my job stuck?
If your job is stuck, follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
- Check the Status: Verify the current status of your job to understand what's happening.
-
Cancel and Retry: If the job should be running but is stuck, cancel it and then retry:
- Go to Actions > Stop Job
- Then, Actions > Retry
- Check Job Configuration: Ensure your job isn't restricted to run only on specific days, which might be causing the delay.

How can I add a new user?
Typically, you might want to add a user to your workspace in these scenarios:
- Collaborate with Colleagues: Give your colleague access to the platform so they can link their own LinkedIn or other social media accounts.
- Clients' Account Management: Manage your clients' accounts without giving them direct access to the workspace.

⭐️ Essentials
What are multi-step workflows?
A workflow is a chain of one or more automated tasks, or in other words: steps.
Workflows are not limited in terms of the number of steps you can automate 🙂
What are tasks and how many do I need?
Each saved result for an automation executed on a workflow counts for one task.
If you have a workflow with 2 steps, let's say one step is a search with 10 results and another step visits the 10 profiles: this will account for 20 tasks - or 20 data output.
If you're using other products like Phantombuster: 1000 tasks is roughly equivalent to 20min.
Checkout our pricing to learn more.
Why are we working with a task's system?
The thing is, with time credits, we cannot really anticipate what your usage will be.
It's better to think about it in terms of actions.
Time credits (minutes of execution) VS tasks?
In the automation market, you'll often see two pricing models: one that sells a number of tasks, like Captain Data, or one that sells minutes of execution, like Phantombuster or Texau.
The thing with time credits is that it's very hard to predict what you're going to need and what's the outcome in terms of data.
We chose tasks: one line of data, one action automated, is considered a task. It's not the perfect model (there's none), but it's the one that gives you the best control over your process, and costs.
What is a User?
When using Captain Data, you’ll add users that will be able to launch automations and synchronize integrations’ accounts.
You will be able to synchronize 3rd party accounts with integrations such as Google Sheets, a social media app like LinkedIn or a 3rd party email finder, etc.
One user can synchronize each integration, so one for LinkedIn, one for Twitter, one for Google, and so on.
Setting up an account is as easy as clicking a button.

🤖 Automation
Is it safe?
Absolutely! At Captain Data, we've added a specific set of limits for each integration. It limits the number of API calls you make or even the number of profiles you visit.
Everything is standardized.
Each integration has a set of limits, to make sure your workflows always run safely, at the best pace.
How can I maximize the platform?
We’re mostly specialized in B2B data extraction and enrichment: building leads database, enriching such lists, but also working with company data, etc.
You'll find our best use cases directly in the platform, with multiple combinations and variations available.
We’re always adding more data sources and templates, and you can always ask for more 🙂

What data sources do you feature?
We have nearly 50 sources of data and integrations available, which you can check in the "Automations" section of this Help Center.
Can I rotate LinkedIn accounts?
Yes you can, we've built this feature by design so that you don't have to do anything.
It's entirely linked with our "smart limits" system so you don't have to worry about it.
Most of the time we recommend using this setting for large teams.
You can learn more about this here.
🔗 Integrations
What integrations do you feature?
Head over to the Integrations page on the platform to see all the applications and integrations you can use within workflows.
What kind of integrations do you support?
We support any type of integration: API keys, cookies, OAuth2, and basic authentication.
What is this feature "Shareable account authentications" or “Magic Sharing”?
This feature enables you to setup integration's accounts with external users.
Let's say you're an agency, dealing with multiple clients: you clearly don't want to manage credentials or complex processes to automate lead generation or data enrichment for them.
ℹ️ With account sharing, someone outside your Captain Data's workspace will be able to synchronize any type of account, whether it is LinkedIn or Hubspot CRM.
